5 CURRENT KITCHEN TRENDS

From sustainable materials to the latest kitchen technology, here’s what to consider for a truly show-stopping kitchen in 2020.

1. Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency is our number one trend for its environmental and cost-saving perks. Yes, it’s cool to be green. From your chosen lighting to thermal mass, there are a lot of ways you can improve the carbon output in your kitchen. The main one, however, is simply choosing appliances with a high energy efficiency star rating.

2. Warmer Tones

A light kitchen is still a must-have. While in previous years people were choosing cool tones, now, whites mixed with warm tones are on trend. “In recent months I’ve seen people moving away from that Calcutta marble, which is white with grey flecks through it, and moving more towards sandy, beachy, beige tones,” interior stylist Emma Blomfield remarks. “They might still use a grey but it will be a warm grey, instead of that cool or dark grey.” Warm tones tend to go with everything. Your main consideration is how it fits with your appliances and metal wares.

3. Sustainability and Conscious Design

There are several factors to consider when it comes to having an eco-friendly kitchen. Consider the materials you use, the building practices of your construction team and where you’re going to put that compost bin when everything is finally set up!

4. Colour Trend

Although most kitchens tend to be in a fairly neutral colour palette, there is a stand out colour request for sage green. It works beautifully with those warmer grey tones and, obviously, works nicely with white as well. If you like green but aren’t sure you want it dominating your colour scheme, you can also source green accessories, like tea towels and plants, to add colour to your kitchen.

5. Black or Brushed

Once upon a time, we all wanted white goods. Then, we wanted stainless steel. Now, we want matte black. Matte black tap ware, light fittings, appliances and even black grout have all been standout trends in recent years. We are still seeing a lot of black which has been the case over the last two years. We are now seeing a lot of appliances now becoming available in black, such as fridges and ovens. In terms of metals, people are now moving away from polished metals and sticking to more brushed finished to avoid finger prints.
