Best of Houzz Awards Revealed!

Houzz Australia has revealed the top rated and winning projects for 2023, and what they are showing us in regards to design trends, below.

Once again, the latest round of home design professionals to earn a 2023 Best of Houzz award have delivered rooms that the Houzz community loves. The annual awards, announced this week, recognise the top-rated home professionals and most popular designs on Houzz across the country, based on user engagement and Ideabook saves.

To celebrate the occasion, and to highlight some of the great designs, we have rounded up a small selection of this year’s winning photos in the top categories. However, there are many more inspiring images for you to browse… To see all the top-rating rooms and different room categories (and to filter for Australia, NZ or any other country), click here.

Kitchen

From the kitchen winners, we can see that colour is making a comeback, particularly in island benches. Keeping rear joinery and surfaces neutral while highlighting form and texture below the island-bench work surface adds personality while allowing for easy future adaption.

Bathroom

From the bathroom winners, there is a big move towards adding individuality to this space. While white bathrooms have long-lasting appeal, playing with elements such as tile shapes, style and form is gaining traction. This is also a great way to tie the bathroom’s look into the rest of a home’s aesthetic.

Living Room

From the living and family room winners, we can see that large openings and windows, with views to nature is something our users rate, whether that’s on a spacious section or a more modest courtyard. The lesson here is to use what you have.

Bedroom

From the bedroom winners, we can see that people are investing more time and energy to create a space they want to retreat to. Traditionally the more private rooms of the house are where we spend our least decorating energy; this is undergoing a fundamental change as we appreciate that they are spaces that help us reset and regenerate.

Home Office

From the home office winners, it is apparent that this space is now a priority for many homeowners. And the ways that people are integrating a work space is far more varied and thought-provoking than in previous years. Free of mounds of paperwork and the need to be hidden behind closed doors, home offices are emerging as streamlined spaces that are aesthetically integrated into (sometimes even a highlight of) our main living spaces.

Laundry

Likewise with the laundry winners. While this room is often still a dedicated space, it’s getting a lot more love in the form of well-chosen basins, tiles, handle ware and work surfaces.

Alfresco

If there is something that Australia does well, and our users respond to, it’s our outdoor spaces. We are moving away from limiting out outdoor extensions to just kitchens and are now including outdoor living and dining areas areas.
